Whether in British Columbia, elsewhere in Canada, or abroad, the aim of educators who work with English language learners is to guide students to:

➢ Feel valued for who they are as people and the multiple facets that comprise their identities
➢ Progress through clear objectives reached with the help of scaffolding supports as necessary
➢ Become engaged in their learning and feel confident that they can reach their goals
➢ Be encouraged to pursue activities that honour their interests and strengths
➢ Have opportunities to express themselves and make contributions to their school and community
